First Itinerary: Sahara Desert & Imperial Cities:

This big trip, which covers several imperial cities including Fes, Meknes, and Marrakesh as well as Roman monuments, the Sahara desert, and the Atlas highlands, is a traditional choice if you only have one week in Morocco.

Day 1: Arrive at Casablanca airport

Start in Casablanca beside the sea. Admire the Boulevard de la Corniche while dining at Rick’s Café, featured in “Casablanca.” The following morning, go on a guided tour of the world’s highest minaret, the Hassan II Mosque, before heading to Meknes to see the Ville Impériale. Explore gardens, mansions, the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum, and the magnificent Bab al-Mansour gate. Volubilis, which has the best-preserved Roman ruins in the nation, is located nearby. Admire the vibrant mosaics in place, including the Labors of Hercules, merchant residences, and temples. Continue to Fes and explore its medieval medina; get your bearings by seeing the Merenid Tomb ruins.

Using Our tour guide, explore the old city on Day 3, getting lost in the maze-like network of narrow side alleyways and bustling souks while taking pictures of Chouara Tannery. You will cross into the Sahara Desert the following day and ride a camel at Merzouga to your desert tent. After visiting desert settlements like Khemliya and Rissani on Day 5, continue traveling into the Sahara and spend the night in Ouarzazate, a well-known hub and movie location, before entering the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs. The next day, you’ll explore Aït Benhaddou and climb the High Atlas to wrap up your time in Marrakesh.

Route #2: Marrakesh, Tour of the Desert, 1 Week in Morocco by 4×4.

This week-long itinerary, which focuses only on the imperial city of Marrakesh, takes in the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara, and desert towns such as the less frequented Zagora. In addition, you’ll travel to Essaouira, a beach town along the coast.

Day 1: Welcome to Morocco by meeting you at Marrakech Airport.

Commence your journey in Marrakesh amidst the millennia-old sandstone walls of the “Red City,” strolling through the medina and absorbing the energy of Jemaa el-Fna with its food carts, entertainment acts, and even snake charmers. Explore the desert and cross the High Atlas mountains the next day to reach Ouarzazate, a city you might know from the movies “Gladiator” and “Lawrence of Arabia.”

Travel through the Draa Valley’s date palms and beyond into the desert to the sometimes-ignored Zagora before setting your camp beneath the stars. Following an early morning to witness the sun rise over the dunes, you will retrace your route through Aït Benhaddou’s kasbah. Enjoy a peaceful evening and morning here before returning to Marrakesh via the Tizi n’Tichka pass. But don’t stay too long—you just have one more place to go. See the beach in the coastal city of Essaouira, or try your hand at kiteboarding before returning to Marrakech to catch your flight home.

Route #3: Northern Moroccan Cities

This journey of northern Morocco takes you from Tangier, which is reached after a short ferry voyage from Spain, southward to two more imperial capitals, Fes and Rabat. You’ll also spend time in Casablanca and spend the night in the picturesque “Blue City” of Chefchaouen.

You’ll begin your 1 Week in Morocco from Tangier, a coastal city whose modern marina stands in stark contrast to its long past formed by many different civilizations. Next, proceed to Chefchaouen, sometimes known as the “Blue City,” where you will stroll around the Rif Mountains among a tangle of vivid blue buildings. Following a peaceful evening and morning spent touring the city, your first stop should be Volubilis, home of the best-preserved Roman remains in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Next, make a stop at Meknes, the imperial metropolis of Moulay Ismail, which expanded under his rule from a tiny town to a magnificent capital. In Fes, Morocco’s “cultural capital,” come to an end of the day and spend the night in a riad.

On the fourth day, go through the Medina of Fes with a guide to see the leather products, jewelry, and rugs. The renowned Chouara Tannery, the hillside Marinid Tombs, and the 9th-century Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University will also be on your itinerary. Rabat, the capital city renowned for its white architecture, comes next. Explore locations such as the Andalusian Gardens and the Royal Palace during the afternoon. On your journey to Marrakesh, stop off in Casablanca to visit the second-largest mosque in the world, the Hassan II Mosque. Finish in the renowned Koutoubia Mosque and Gardens, as well as the bustling Jemaa el-Fna, often known as the “Red City”.

While traveling, make a stop at the Hercules Caves west of Tangier, the legendary hero’s resting place before he carried out his eleventh labor. You will take a guided tour of Fes, which has one of the largest old quarters in the world, after arriving from Chefchaouen. On the fourth day, ride a camel to a desert camp and spend the night beneath the stars before crossing the Atlas Mountains and arriving in the dunes of Erg Chebbi in the Sahara. Return to the city by traveling through the breathtaking Todra Gorge and the Dadès Valley. Travel the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs until you reach Ouarzazate, sometimes referred to as the “Hollywood of Morocco.” After some time, you’ll arrive in Marrakesh, where a guide will show you all the must-see locations, such as the Koutoubia Mosque, Saadian Tombs, and the souks.

Itinerary #5: Atlas Mountains hiking, a tour of the desert, and Marrakesh Morocco in 1 Week

If you want to experience a blend of outdoor activity and cultural education while visiting Morocco, opt for this varied itinerary. After a week in Morocco, you’ll leave Marrakesh and head into the desert to see its main sights, which include climbing in the Atlas Mountains’ foothills, sharing a meal with a Berber family, and visiting an argan oil cooperative.

Day 1: Arrive in Marrakesh.

Day 2: Marrakech to Essaouira 

Day 3: Essaouira to Agadir Via Taghazout

Start your one Week in Morocco journey in Marrakesh and take in the energy of Jemaa el-Fna, the city’s well-known souks, the Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, and the gorgeous Majorelle Gardens beyond the medina. You will enter the High Atlas mountains on Day 2. On a clear day, you can see Mount Toubkal, which is the highest point in North Africa. Along the way, you’ll see authentic Berber communities with their mud-brick houses and possibly even stop at an argan oil cooperative. Later on, you will see the fragrant Kelâat M’Gouna and the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs. Here, roses grow abundantly; visit a rose collective to witness the process of harvesting and refining the blossoms into rose oil and water.
