In Morocco, tourist numbers and costs rise in tandem with rising temperatures. However, June is a fantastic month to go to the beach, go hiking in the mountains, and attend a renowned music festival. Continue reading for our June must-do and see the list.
The weather in June
Morocco gets hot—in some circumstances, really hot—around June. In Marrakech, highs surge higher in the desert, reaching the mid-nineties Fahrenheit, when tourists may be at risk of heat stroke. The Atlas Mountains, where the average daytime temperature is 75°, the seashore, where sea breezes lower the temperature, and northern cities like Fes, where highs in the mid-eighties and lows in the seventies, are all colder. at June, the average daily temperature at Tangier, on the northern shore, is a pleasant 61°.
On the good side, Morocco’s dry season officially begins in June. Rain is not a concern, but becoming dehydrated can be, so make sure you drink lots of water, preferably bottled.
Costs & Crowds
In Morocco, as the temperature rises, so do the high season rates and large crowds. Of course, popular places like Marrakech and Fes have the biggest crowds (and the fiercest rivalry for rooms in the best riads and hotels). To guarantee your lodging and tours before they sell out, make your reservations well in advance. Additionally, if you can, get a room with a swimming pool. After a tiring day of touring or climbing, you’ll be grateful.
Where to Go in June
Consider going on an adventure in the Rif Mountains or cooling down at a beach on the Atlantic or Mediterranean beaches to escape the heat (and the people).
The Sahara Desert is not a wonderful place to visit in June. That specific trip should be postponed until between October and May when the weather is more temperate. June is an excellent season to explore northern cities such as Tangier and Rabat, as it’s not too hot in the south of the country, where Marrakech is located.
How to Proceed
Go hiking in the mountains or surf the waves at the beach, but avoid the Sahara in the summertime because it’s too hot to appreciate. Due to the heat and congestion, sightseeing in cities like Fes can be a bit difficult, but the temperatures are actually quite cool when you compare them to July and August. Go sightseeing as soon as possible if you want to explore the city or Marrakech, and then leave town for a more sedate and chilled trip in the highlands or along the coast.
June is a great month to attend a music festival or concert with a local audience because it’s the beginning of summer. For further details, look below.
Events in June.
International Sacred Music Festival — Fes comes alive with an arts-focused special event in the final week of June. Despite its name, the Festival of World Sacred Music offers more than just music; it’s a film festival, filled with educational programs and outdoor concerts.
Gnaoua World Music Festival: Every June, the coastal city of Essaouira organizes a three-day event honoring the Gnaoua, or Gnawa, an indigenous ethnic minority of the Maghreb. Although pop, jazz, rock, and other modern music genres are also featured during the festival, Essaouira has historically been the epicenter of Gnaoua music. This event is one of the trendiest locations to visit in June because of its seaside location.
