3 Days Desert Tour from Fes
Itinerary Trip
470 km / 7.5 h
3 Days desert tour From Fes start from Your Accommodtion in Fes and then into the Merzouga desert.
We have the longest journey of the day (7.5 hours), but we don’t notice how quickly time flies as we enjoy the ever-changing landscape. On the way, we stop at the university and the resort of Ifrane, which was founded by the French during the protectorate. The European nature and climate, the parks with lakes and chalets, the ski slopes and the abundant snow in winter have given the town the nickname of “Moroccan Switzerland”. Near Ifran, we can admire the majestic cedars of the Atlas mountains and feed wild macaques.
Stop for lunch in Midelt (extra charge). Further on, our road crosses the gorge and the Zizi valley, and as we approach Er-Rashidiya the landscape changes to desert.
Arrival in the small village of Merzouga at the foot of the dunes and check-in in a traditional guesthouse. Dinner (included in the price) and overnight in the guesthouse.
Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Excursion around Merzouga by SUV.
Tour of Erg Chebbi The goal of the day is to explore the Sahara desert toward the east. In a 4×4 vehicle, we will traverse the region. In order to demonstrate us their way of life, the nomadic families we will be visiting will greet us with a cup of tea and perhaps even offer us a taste of bread that has been baked in their improvised oven.
Additionally, we will visit Khamlia, the village of the dark-skinned people, and take in their traditional Gnawa music and singing. We will next take a car to Rissani Market. It existed as the independent kingdom of Sijilmassa from the eighth to the fourteenth centuries. Thanks to the thriving caravan routes that led from Tombouctou, the capital of Mali, to several Moroccan cities like Marrakech and Fes, a thriving market was formed there. The market is still going strong today. It is intriguing because it caters to the locals rather than tourists. The farmers and nomads gather to sell their livestock, vegetables, dates, and other produce three times a week (Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday), which causes it to double in size.
We will begin the camel trek into the stunning Erg Chebbi dunes after enjoying a traditional lunch at one of the village’s small eateries. As the sun sets, we will ride our camels across the desert for a spectacular evening in the desert, where our guides will prepare a delectable and fresh Berber dinner while we set up camp and unwind under the stars.
For the first time in your life, you wake up early and sit in a tent in the Sahara desert waiting for the sun to rise over the dunes.
You then return to your starting point and drive through the town of Rissani, famous for its traditional donkey and goat market. before continuing to Midelt, the apple capital. In Midelt, we visit the Ahuri mining valley, an ancient site of barite, coal, and zinc mines. Ghost mining towns still exist within the group.
