3 days desert trip from Erachidia

This day will be an exploration of the eastern Sahara desert. We explore the area by 4×4 vehicle. The nomadic families that we will be visiting will welcome us with a cup of tea and perhaps even a taste of some bread baked in their makeshift oven, and will show us their way of life.

We will also enjoy their original Gnawa music and folk songs in the village of the dark-skinned people called Khamlia.

Rissani marketplace.

From there it is a drive to the Rissani market, which is the home of the Gnawa people. It was a separate kingdom known as Sijilmassa from the 8th to the 14th century. Thanks to the flourishing caravan routes from Mali’s capital, Tombouctou, to various Moroccan cities such as Marrakech and Fes, a rich market was established there. The market has survived to the present day.

It is interesting because it is not a tourist souk, but rather a souk that is at the service of the local population. 3 times a week (Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays), the market doubles in size as farmers and nomads gather to sell their animals, vegetables, dates and other products.

Dunes of the Erg Chebbi.

The camel trek through the beautiful Erg Chebbi dunes begins after a traditional lunch in one of the small restaurants in the village. We ride our camels through the desert for another magical evening as the sun sets on the horizon. Our guides will prepare a fresh and delicious Berber dinner as we settle into camp and relax under a million stars. If the weather is good, a campfire will be lit and you can enjoy some music outside.
