8 Days Toubkal Trekking Tour & Tour From Marrakech

Jabel Toubkal

Jabel Toubkal is the highest point in Morocco, the High Atlas, and North Africa, at 4,167 meters above sea level. The route of this mountain is unclassified and can be climbed by anyone, regardless of age or size. Those who want to climb to the top come here from all over the world.

Along the way, we stayed in hostels (as in Europe, but with local features) or mountain lodges. Conditions were very basic, but there was water, showers and electricity. All heavy loads were transported by car or donkeys. We carried only our personal belongings in a small backpack.

Meals in town: breakfast – included in price; breakfast and dinner, afternoon tea, and snacks in the mountains. During free time in town, participants can eat on their own at cafes, which are numerous and inexpensive in Morocco (the guide will tell you where it is best to do so).

8 Days Toubkal Trekking Tour

If you’ve never been into a mountain before and want to know if you can experience loads while enduring the lack of oxygen, then climbing Mount Toubkal is a great activity to test your abilities. Mount Toubkal is located in the Atlas Mountains and is the highest peak in the range. It is a relatively low mountain, but at the same time, you can try loads and high altitude ascents on it. Here, as on the big mountains, climbers must scramble up snow-covered slopes, wear ice claws on their boots and use ice axes. Climbing Tubal is ideal for beginners and those who want to see the exotic world of the Arabs.
There is so much more waiting for you on this trip.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech
Your 8 days Toubkal trekking tour will start by Meet with participants in Marrakech. Guided city tour, free time, overnight at a hotel in the city center.
Day 2: Marrakech - Imlil

Depart Marrakech in the morning for the mountain village of Imlil. The elevation is 1800 m. Vehicles are not allowed in the high mountains. From Imlil, we will drive to another village, Aroud, where we will stay at the guesthouse with a terrace overlooking Toubkal. After the overnight stay and rest, we will go on a small hike (5-10 km) in the surrounding area. We will visit the village, the mountains, and the remains of a hilltop fortress. In the evening we will return to the village for dinner on a terrace overlooking the mountains, enjoying a local tagine (the main local dish) and Moroccan tea.

In Imlil, the days are warm during the winter with temperatures never dropping below +15, but at night the temperature drops to 0°C and the cold sets in at the end of the day, and that is the mountains.

Day 3: Imlil
After breakfast, we rented climbing equipment such as crampons and walking sticks, hired a donkey to load all our gear, and headed for the mountain. We walked on very wide paths and the donkeys carried our backpacks. The trip to the shelter usually takes 3-4 hours. In the middle of the road in the village of Sidi Shamalos (there is a small mosque on a white rock, a holy place for many believers), they offer us tea and cake. The road gets steeper and steeper, and soon we come to a snowy ravine. Here we had to unload the donkeys carrying our luggage, and after an hour or so we arrived at a new Moroccan shelter and an old French shelter. There we were. We were given bunk bed rooms, had dinner and went to bed. Altitude 3,220 meters.
Day 4: Toubkal

Up at 5 am, breakfast, down the mountain at 6-7 am. Arrive at the summit at 10-11 am. If the weather is good, you can see half of the African continent. At the top we take pictures, drink tea, and descend to the shelter.

The ascent usually takes 4 hours and the descent takes about 2 hours. The ascent is about 1000 meters.

Dinner at the shelter with a traditional Moroccan stew.

There are a variety of options for this day trip. – If the weather is too bad to climb the mountain, we will take a walk around the refuge and admire the panoramic view of the majestic summit.

– If you successfully summit and return from the summit early, you may descend to the village of Aloud (guesthouse ) after a rest and refreshment.

Day 5: Alternative Day
In case of bad weather, the summit day will be changed. If the summit is successfully reached on the main day, we can re-summit today by an alternative route to visit the surrounding mountains or by a radial ascent from the village of Aroud to the pass via Berber villages and gardens. Dinner is Moroccan style.
