History of Morocco

Morocco gained its independence in 1956 and is now ruled by King Mohammed VI as a parliamentary constitutional monarchy. Morocco is home to the indigenous Berber tribe, which has its own spoken language. Arabs began to live in North Africa around the 7th century. Influenced by Arab culture, most Moroccans practise Islam. The proximity to Europe (only half an hour by ferry from northern Morocco to Spain) and the influence of Morocco as a French and Spanish protectorate in previous centuries have led to a mixing of our traditional cultures. Today, Moroccans are made up of Arabs and Berbers, and the people usually speak Arabic, and French, but many still use our mother tongue: Berber.

Climate:

Morocco is a large country with a climate that varies from region to region. Morocco has a Mediterranean climate, which is usually dry throughout the year, but there is more rainfall between November and March. July and August are the hottest months of the year, with temperatures that can reach 40°C in Marrakech and 50°C in the desert. However, in coastal areas such as Essaouira, you can enjoy the cool summer breeze of the ocean and take a break from the extreme heat in the highlands. To escape the heat, you can join our excursions and visit the waterfalls in Ouzouda and the Ourika Valley. In winter, there is snow in the Atlas Mountains The best time to visit Moroccois from March to May (spring) and from September to November (autumn).

Popular attractions

Most travelers usually start their exploration of Morocco with a visit to Marrakech, Casablanca, or Fez. There is a long and interesting history of both cities.

For a truly amazing desert experience, take a camel ride into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes and spend the night in a traditional Berber tent on our desert tour from Marrakech or our desert tour from Fez. You can also join our great tours and visit other famous Moroccan cities such as Tangier, Chefchaouen, Meknes, etc.

A visit to the Sahara is sure to be an incredible and unforgettable experience. You will never forget the experience of riding a camel on the sand dunes. Forget all your worries and enjoy the peaceful moments. Will you lose or win in the vast desert? At night, listen to the drumming of the Berbers and look up to see the stars. For more information, visit the Erg Chebbi website.

If your time is limited, why not take a day trip from Marrakesh? Visit the ancient Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, the waterfalls of the Ouzoud and Oourika valleys, or the film city of Ouarzazate.

With its wide streets, tall buildings, and ornate temples, Gueliz is the modern part of the city.

Merzouga desert

Merzouga is Morocco’s biggest and most important tourist attraction, located in the heart of the Sahara Desert, with its small villages and green oases surrounded by golden sand dunes. A trip to the Merzouga Desert offers unforgettable moments of camel rides on the dunes, sleeping in traditional tents under the stars, enjoying sunset and sunrise, the tastiest Moroccan dinner on the dunes and dramatic music around the fire with the local nomads. Read More About Desert Morocco
