February is a wonderful time to Organize your Morocco trip

Morocco in February
February is a wonderful time to visit Morocco if you want to see the Sahara or explore imperial cities without a lot of tourists. Check out our monthly guide for advice on where to go and what to do.

Weather

The southern regions of Morocco get the most agreeable weather in February. Days in Marrakech are bright, with highs in the 70s and lows in the lower 50s. In Tangier, highs are in the low sixties and most days are overcast. It’s colder and cloudier in the north. Even though it can go up to the upper 60s in the Atlas Mountains, the nights are significantly colder. Although February doesn’t experience as much rain as January, you’ll probably have one or two rainy days while you’re here.

Costs & Crowds

If you’d prefer to avoid large crowds at popular destinations, February is an excellent time to visit Morocco because it’s a sluggish month for travel there. Because many hotels and riads offer off-season prices, you’ll also save money by traveling during the low season (and maybe even on flights to and from Morocco).

Where to Go

The Sahara Desert and the Atlantic coast are your best bets for February due to the mild weather that makes camel rides and trekking more enjoyable. Remember that while the High Atlas mountains offer moderate temperatures, heavy precipitation in January and February can raise river levels to an unsuitable level, rendering certain pathways impassable.

How to Proceed

The desert may get extremely hot during the summer, so February is an excellent time to explore it. Enjoy the bright days and milder temperatures by going on an ATV excursion, trekking, or a camel ride. Because the air is usually clear and dust-free at this time of year, it is perfect for capturing images.

February is a great month to hire a private tour and take your time seeing Fes at your speed. Alternatively, spend some time in the cities or unwind at the beach, where the weather is generally nice.

Another alternative is to go skiing. Travel 50 miles south of Marrakech to Oukaïmeden, a little town in the High Atlas Mountains that offers a basic winter sports facility with a few downhill courses. A good substitute is the Michlifen ski station in the Middle Atlas, which lies close to the settlement of Ifrane.

February Happenings

Almond Blossom Festival: Every February, Tafraoute, Morocco’s capital of almonds, along with the neighboring Valle Dei Tempi, celebrate the harvest. The Almond Blossom Festival offers a variety of almond goods for sale along with live music and folkloric dancing, among other traditional Berber art forms. The festival always takes place in February, albeit the exact day fluctuates every year. If you decide to travel, don’t pass up the opportunity to climb across the neighboring mountains and see the well-known Blue Painted Rocks.
