The best time to visit the desert in Morocco – Morocco desert trekking:
Autumn and spring are the best times to travel in the Sahara Desert in Morocco. At this time of year, night temperatures are around +10, and during the day up to +35. In winter the desert is not hot, up to +25 °C during the day, but at night it can get below freezing. If you come to Morocco in winter to visit the dunes, it is best to stay in a comfortable hotel or kasbah on the edge of the desert. You can stay comfortably overnight and then go on an early morning or evening “excursion” in the desert and enjoy a few hours of camel trekking or quad biking in the dunes. The Sahara desert is very hot in summer. The heat of the desert makes it impossible to travel comfortably to these places! In any case, an experienced travel agent or concierge will be able to take into account all these nuances and organize your itinerary around Morocco desert trekking… Holidays in Morocco: ….
Where to see the Sahara desert in Morocco?
The sea of sand dunes in Morocco is often called “erg” in Arabic (“kum” in Asia). Here are some of the best places to see the Sahara Desert, which is one of the most important parts of the Kingdom of Morocco with its sand dunes, from a traveler’s point of view. Although not very well known, the Sahara Desert is not just pure sand; a rocky desert with little or no vegetation is also typical of Morocco. There is sand here too, but not in the form of dunes. They look more like rocks and hills, with no sense of life or asceticism. In a way, the entire southern part of Morocco can be described as a desert. The only exception is the rare oasis of date palms, where all life, old and modern, is concentrated. The country is small and fertile, with rocks and sand for variety. It gets its water from the Draa River, the region’s main waterway, and is only alive for a few months a year.
When Morocco gets rain in autumn and winter, the river fills up and carries water to oases in the south. The Sahara desert at Merzouga is the Erg Chebbi cliffs, while the southern Sahara desert near the towns of Zagora and Mouhaid is the Erg Chegaga cliffs.
